QUESTION OF THE DAY

QUESTION : Is it recommeded to avoid eggs as they contain cholesterol?

Answer: One should understand that vegetables and herbs do not contain cholesterol.
So one would wonder, how is cholesterol found in the blood of people who are completely vegetarian. This is because cholesterol is produced in the body after digestion of fatty substance.
This causes the egg cholesterol to dissolve, as it participates in the digestive process when passing through the stomach. However, it does not get absorbed into the blood in the form of cholesterol.
Therefore, the correlation between dietary cholesterol and blood cholesterol would not be appropriate. Hence, avoiding intake of egg just because it contains cholesterol does not make much sense.

(English translation: Mukesh)
