Five years ago, during the eighth month of my pregnancy, I was diagnosed with diabetes. The doctors told me that diabetes during pregnancy usually goes away after delivery, but unfortunately, it remained permanent in my case. I was taking medications, but I was not very serious about managing my diabetes. When I got an opportunity for a second chance, I decided to take it.
However, because my blood sugar levels were very high, the doctors advised me to consider an abortion. I was extremely stressed at that time. The doctors told me that if I wanted to continue the pregnancy, my HbA1c would need to be around 6.5%. To achieve this, they started me on insulin therapy. Initially, it did not bother me much, but after some time, I began gaining weight and feeling tired because of the insulin. I was only 35 years old, and I found it difficult to accept that I was already dependent on insulin at such a young age. I constantly wondered what I could do to improve my situation.
I started watching doctors’ interviews on YouTube. I had heard about Dr. Dixit, but I did not know much about his work. I found the Pune Center’s phone number through Google and called them. I learned that the doctors were available on Mondays and Thursdays, so I visited the Pune Center on a Monday. They asked me to undergo certain tests. After getting the test results, I met Dr. Dixit and Dr. Swati. Right from the beginning, they reduced my insulin dosage. Soon after, I joined the Pune DRCC group.
Later, I learned about the 90-Day Challenge and decided to participate. My HbA1c was 9% when I started. As the challenge began, I started sharing photos of my meals every day, walking regularly, and staying active. These activities kept me motivated and happy. Doing everything together with the group gave me immense joy. I also made a firm decision not to eat sweets, no matter what festival or occasion came along. Even during Gudhi Padwa, when my family insisted that I eat sweet festive dishes, I refused.
At the end of the first month, my HbA1c came down to 8.1%, which made me very happy. During the second month, I fell ill, but I remained determined to recover quickly, continue walking, and keep posting my daily updates. During this difficult period, Mrs. Kavita Mehendale provided tremendous support. Whenever I felt worried or confused and called her, she patiently listened and guided me with great understanding.
In the second month, my HbA1c was 8.3%. Even then, I remained positive and satisfied with my progress. Before I realized it, the three months had passed. Today, my HbA1c has come down to 7.5%.
I am sincerely grateful to Dr. Dixit, Mrs. Kavita Mehendale, and Mrs. Minal Dongavkar for their continuous guidance, encouragement, and support throughout these three months.
