Question of the day: Eating sugar is good or bad?
Ans: As the saying goes ‘God gives more to the one who eats sweets’. But health wise this is wrong. In an interview to the British Medical Journal , published on 17th April 2013 American endocrinologist Robert Lustig opined that Insulin and sugar are the main causes of obesity . Insulin secrets more due to sugar. This results in body storing fats. Fructose present in sugar is responsible for ill effects of sugar. According to Lustig sugar is addictive also. Habit of eating sweets develops from childhood. As we see, later some persons become sweet eaters permanently. He is also of the opinion that sugar should be banned for children upto 18 years of age. Overall it is important that sugar produces excess energy, increases insulin secretion and fats are stored in the body. Therefore eating more sugar is definitely not good .
