Interpreting fasting INSULIN and HbA1C

After success story of Pallavi, many members had questions about her fasting INSULIN which increased from less than 1 to more than 10.

Fasting INSULIN level is an indicator of insulin resistance.
The normal value as per laboratories is from 3 to 26. But when you are fasting it should be as low as possible. Definitely it should be below 10 in a healthy person.

HbA1C gives us average blood sugar level of last 3 months. Normal level is upto 5.6; 5.7 to 6.4 is labeled as prediabetes and 6.5 or more is diabetes.

There are 4 possibilities about fasting INSULIN level and HbA1C:

1) Fasting INSULIN low and HbA1C up to 5.6…which means healthy nondiabetic person

2) Fasting INSULIN more than 10 and HbA1C normal…which means beginning of development of insulin resistance.

3) Fasting INSULIN more than 10 and HbA1C 5.7 or more which means inability of body to control blood sugar level despite producing more insulin.

4) Fasting INSULIN very low (below 3) and HbA1C high…indicates exhausting pancreas which are unable to produce enough insulin..

Our diet plan decreases insulin resistance. In case of Pallavi, her fasting INSULIN was very low. Due to diet plan it increased and at the same time HbA1C decreased to nondiabetic level.

After 2 to 3 months her fasting INSULIN will decrease to below 10 or even lower.
And with normal HbA1C that low insulin will be a sign of good health

(One must also understand that as the period of fasting increases then the level of insulin decreases. So in a blood sample given at 9am, the insulin will be lower as compared to a blood sample given at 7am or 8am. So we advise you to give blood samples for monitoring fasting INSULIN at the same time)
